Giving Back

I am not sure I realized it about myself until the past few years, but I really like helping people succeed in what they are trying to do.  Perhaps this is my highest and best ‘use.’  So far this has consisted of:  my mentoring programs (for Black people and women seeking to grow real estate careers) and the establishment – with my wife – of The Sweetie Pig Foundation to ‘spread joy and happiness in the world.’

Access to Capital


I have developed an extraordinary number of relationships with many of the most respected investors in the real estate world, all of which are interested in investing with high quality real estate counterparties.  I will continue my work bringing these parties together and have formalized this initiative by registering myself with licensed securities firm Tangent Capital.  With Tangent’s help I will be able to be ‘useful’ in providing access to capital to enable smaller sized players to achieve their growth initiatives.  Notably, no fees will be charged to clients of my law firm, Duval & Stachenfeld LLP.

Business Building


For close to 15 years, though my role as a partner in Duval & Stachenfeld LLP, I have been of great ‘use’ to my clients in utilizing my understanding of the underpinnings of the real estate industry, my access to resources and my deal-making skills to help real estate players “Grow Their Businesses.”  I will enhance this to a deeper level through The Useful Bruce.


My 7 Power Keys to Success – Who I Am At Heart

  • Always try to reach “impossible”
  • I never believe I know everything – no matter how good I am, I can always learn more
  • I truly love my partners, clients and friends in real estate and I look for the good in them
  • I am thick skinned and don’t hold grudges – everyone has a bad day – cut them some slack
  • I don’t like mean people but can work with them – but I avoid dishonest people 100%
  • I have brutal unvarnished honesty to myself – if things go wrong, I blame myself first
  • I love to think – it is my hobby and the heart of why I am successful
  • I love ideas that seem crazy – when everyone says it’s a bad idea, my ears perk up
  • I am not afraid to make a fool out of myself – successful outcomes require trial and “error”
  • When I fail – which happens a lot – I grieve for a day – and then pick myself up and go again
  • I set impossible goals and work hard on them- sometimes I succeed and sometimes not
